Choosing a Support Based on Sprain Severity

Grade I (Mild): Ligaments are stretched but not torn. A low-profile support like the MedSpec Universal Wrist Lacer is ideal here as it provides the compression needed to reduce swelling while allowing full finger and thumb mobility.

Grade II (Moderate): Partial ligament tears require more rigid control. Look for a wrist splint for sprains that includes a volar stay to prevent the wrist from dropping or twisting.

Grade III (Severe): A complete tear often feels like a fracture. Maximum immobilization is required to keep the carpal bones aligned during the 6-12 week healing phase.
