Brownmed Seal-Tight Original Cast and Bandage Protector

$29.95

The Seal-Tight Original Cast and Bandage Protector is the gold standard in medical-grade moisture protection, engineered to keep fiberglass and plaster casts 100% dry. Recommended by orthopaedic surgeons for over 30 years, this reusable, latex-free cover eliminates the need for messy DIY solutions like plastic bags and tape. Its patented application ring and high-performance diaphragm provide a consistent, watertight seal that is guaranteed to last the entire life of your cast.

Key Features & Clinical Benefits

  • Watertight Diaphragm: The non-latex TPE diaphragm stretches easily over bulky casts and snaps back to form a leak-proof seal against the skin.

  • One-Handed Application: The rigid plastic ring provides a stable grip, allowing patients to apply the protector independently without pumps, straps, or adhesive.

  • Durable Polyvinyl Construction: The heavy-duty bag is puncture-resistant and designed to withstand the rough edges of fiberglass casting material.

  • Enhanced Hygiene: By preventing moisture penetration, it significantly reduces the risk of skin maceration, fungal growth, and infection under the cast.

  • Latex-Free: Safe for individuals with skin sensitivities or natural rubber latex allergies.

How to Measure for a Perfect Fit

To ensure a watertight seal, the protector must sit on bare skin at least 1-2 inches above the cast. Do not size based on height or weight.

  1. Measure Length: Measure from the tip of the finger/heel to 2 inches above the top of the cast.

  2. Measure Circumference: Measure the limb's circumference at the point where the seal will rest (bare skin).

Professional Usage Instructions

  • Application: Hold the plastic ring and stretch the rubber diaphragm over the cast. Pull upward until the seal is 1-2 inches above the cast edge.

  • The Squeegee Seal: Once in place, push the ring slightly back toward the cast. This causes the edge of the rubber diaphragm to flare upward, creating a "squeegee" effect that prevents water from pooling at the entry point.

  • Removal: Thoroughly dry the rubber seal before stretching it to slide over the cast. Never pull on the polyvinyl bag to remove, as this can tear the material.

  • Care: Hang to air-dry after each use. Do not store in direct sunlight or extreme heat.

Important Note: The Seal-Tight Original is designed for showering and bathing only. It is not intended for recreational swimming or full submersion in pools. For swimming, we recommend the Seal-Tight Sport model.

Indications for Use

The Seal-Tight Original Cast and Bandage Protector is indicated for the following conditions to ensure a 100% watertight environment during daily hygiene:

  • Orthopedic Recovery: Protects fiberglass and plaster casts from moisture during the healing of fractures and broken bones.
  • Post-Surgical Care: Keeps surgical incisions, sutures, and staples dry to reduce the risk of post-operative infection.
  • Wound Management: Essential for covering bandages and dressings used for lacerations, abrasions, or chronic ulcers.
  • PICC Lines & IV Sites: Provides a secure barrier for intravenous sites and peripherally inserted central catheters (showering only).
  • Dermatological Conditions: Protects skin affected by burns, rashes, or severe eczema when topical medications or dressings must remain undisturbed by water.
  • Prosthetic Maintenance: Helps keep residual limbs dry for patients who require protection during bathing.
